Yangon, Myanmar, 4 April 2025 – The major earthquake that struck different areas across the country on March 28, 2025, significantly impacted many communities in Myanmar in the wake of its destruction. ATOM is deeply saddened by this tragic event and stands in solidarity with the people of Myanmar.
In lending a helping hand and contributing towards recovery care, ATOM has announced donating 1 billion MMK to communities affected by the devastating earthquake. As a people-first and purpose-led telecommunication company, ATOM provides aid and immediate support to the impacted people in times of crisis. This contribution will support various relief efforts including supporting essential items, facilitating communication, providing medical care, connecting quake-hit individuals to the Red Cross (with a donation of 325 million MMK), and establishing temporary facilities for thousands in need.
While offering additional aid for infrastructure repair, ATOM is working closely with local organisations, business partners, and authorised entities to ensure all aspects are managed effectively and efficiently.
“Our hearts are heavy with the devastation from the earthquake, and we have made it our resolution to do what we can and stand by those who have been hit the hardest. With our contribution of 1 billion MMK to relief and recovery efforts, we hope to make a meaningful difference in the immediate and long-term healing of the community. During this challenging period, ATOM will stand with the people of Myanmar,” said Mr. Ahmad Abdallah, Chief Executive Officer at ATOM.
ATOM’s In-Kind Care Commitment
Parallel to the monetary commitment, ATOM provides 300 minutes of on-net voice calls, 100 minutes of off-net voice calls and 1 GB of internet data free of charge to all ATOM users in earthquake-affected areas until April 10. Despite the impact on ATOM’s infrastructure in certain areas, ATOM is actively collaborating with partners to mitigate challenges and restore communication, ensuring access to critical information, and emergency assistance.
“We recognise the immense challenges overcasting the communities and are committed to doing our part to help during this time. In addition to our donation of MMK 1 billion, our team is also providing on-ground relief support in Nay Pyi Taw, Pyaw Bwe, Kyauk Se, Mandalay, and Sagaing. We are also conducting “အက်တမ်နှင့်အတူနှစ်ဆလှူ“ Double Donation program together with our valued customers, where we will match the contribution amount and double the total contributions. At the same time, we are going to collaborate with other major business partners and conduct donations for the earthquake affected communities. Every contribution makes a difference, and ATOM will match the value for maximum support,” said U Thein Hoke, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at ATOM.
Under the “ATOM WITH THE HEART” banner, ATOM remains deeply committed to its Humanitarian Care & Support pillar, prioritising efforts to provide essential aid and assistance. Within ATOM, CARE packages have been developed for the employees including the necessities such as non-perishable foods, battery packs, candles, lighters, over-the-counter medication, and basic First Aid kits. Relocation and accommodation support are also being provided for the affected ATOM employee.
